The Green Register - An introduction to Airtightness and Moisture Management Session 1 of 4

Airtightness in detail for designers and builders.

Following the successful launch of this series of airtightness events last year, we're pleased to again provide this essential and popular training, consisting of four events running every Thursday in October, in partnership with The Green Register. The series will cover all aspects of airtightness with each session lasting 2 hours and these can be attended individually or as a whole.

Description

Session 1 will cover the fundamentals of airtightness theory and the pros and cons of different materials used on site, presented by Neil Turner from Ecological Building Systems.  This will be followed by Diane Hubbard from Green Footsteps who will use her vast experience as an airtightness tester and thermographer to share the challenges and queries that commonly arise on site.

With a mechanical engineering background, Diane’s interest in buildings arose several years ago with the realisation that our existing buildings are crucial to reducing our environmental impact.

Primarily interested in building physics, she completed an MSc at the Centre for Alternative Technology and over the past few years has had a number of papers published in the field of ventilation in traditional dwellings, together with undertaking project work for organisations such as the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and Historic Environment Scotland.

Diane is a certified Passive House Consultant and Tradesperson as well as being accredited through the iATS (Independent Airtightness Testing Scheme) to airtightness test and certify both homes and non-domestic buildings for Part L.

Technical Specification Advisor (BSc Hons, MSc)

Dave has extensive experience with energy efficiency retrofits and is well acquainted with the “fabric first” principles of integrating airtightness and insulation in both new-build and existing buildings. He has also worked within the domestic renewable energy sector, with the main emphasis on solar PV, solar thermal and biomass systems. He has a Degree in Environmental Science and an MSc in Architecture: Advanced Environment & Energy Studies and recently qualified as a Certified Passive House Tradesperson with the Passive House Institute. Outside of work, Dave enjoys trail running and cycling, growing vegetables and being sociable.
